San Francisco-based Fossil Group has declared that it would no longer be producing smartwatches, with the Gen 6 series being the company’s final wearable model.
According to The Verge, Fossil has been one of the manufacturers of Wear OS smartwatches most prolific throughout the years.
According to a Fossil representative cited in the story, “We have made the strategic decision to exit the watch company as the watch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years.”
The Fossil Group is reallocating resources to bolster our core competencies and the business areas that present us with robust development prospects. These categories include creating and distributing captivating conventional timepieces, jewelry, and leather items under our own and licensed brand names.
- Fossil’s Gen 6 smartwatch, which debuted in 2021, will be its final model.
- Updates for Wear OS watches will be provided by the business “for the next few years.”
- Last year, Fossil was supposed to reveal a new Gen 7 that would have used the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Plus platform, but the announcement was postponed.
- The Gen 6 smartwatches from Fossil featured a 1.28-inch circular OLED screen housed in a 44mm round case, available in several distinct styles.
The business unveiled “STAPLE x Fossil,” a new watch relationship created in 2022 with renowned streetwear brand STAPLE, led by streetwear pioneer and creative icon Jeff Staple.
