Baidu’s Ernie takes over: Samsung Galaxy S24 phones to feature chinese AI in China

The Galaxy S24 range, which includes the Galaxy AI, was introduced by Samsung in China. The catch is there, though. The Galaxy AI on Galaxy S24 phones is driven by Baidu’s Ernie in China, opposed to the rest of the world, where Google’s Gemini AI model powers the AI capabilities.

To integrate the Ernie LLM into the new Galaxy S24 series, Samsung’s Chinese subsidiary collaborated with Baidu’s AI Cloud.

The enhanced Samsung Note Assistant, according to Samsung Electronics China and Baidu, “now features Ernie’s understanding and generation capabilities, and can translate content and also summarise lengthy content into clear, intelligently organised formats at the click of a button.”

Numerous features included in the US and Chinese versions of the Galaxy S24 phones are shared, such as photo assistant, transcription assistance, and real-time call translation. Through the Note Assistant feature, the Ernie LLM tool will also help users translate and summarize documents and transcribing speech in multiple languages.

Additionally, Samsung is introducing a function that is akin to Google’s “Circle to Search,” allowing Chinese users to search for texts, images, or videos with hand gestures. Baidu will supply the search results. Google’s minimal presence in China is probably the reason behind the change. Google services and apps are not included with Android handsets sold in China.

Additionally, the Chinese government has been assisting domestic AI businesses, and Chinese search engine Baidu made its Ernie Bot available to the public in August of last year.
